Oakland Raiders Jerseys

The Oakland Raiders is a franchise that has endured success and controversy throughout their tenure in the NFL. Beginning with the American Football League as a charter member, the Raiders joined the NFL in 1970 when the AFL and NFL merged. They are now part of the AFC Western division.

Over the course of their time with the NFL the Raiders have won twelve division titles and three Super Bowls as well as playing in two other Super Bowls. Thirteen of the Raiders former players have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Oakland Raiders have been moved from Oakland to Los Angeles, and back as well as being involved in lawsuits over location, franchise trademarks, and stadiums which has taken some of the attention away from the game. In 2000 coach Jon Gruden led Oakland to their first division title since 1990 which was also the first of a 3 season winning streak. Bill Callahan took over in 2002 and the Raiders haven't done so well since then, having gone through several head coaches and not making it to any championship games. Not since John Madden has there been security at the coaching position.

With players like Bo Jackson, Marcus Allen and Howie Long the Raiders have a lot of successful athletes in their yearbooks, but the main thing they face now is stopping the coach shuffling, getting past the controversies and coming together as a team to do what they need to do to get back to the top of the NFL pile.

Early Jersey

Originally the Raiders wore black and gold uniforms with black helmets that had a white stripe with no logo.

In 1963 Al Davis became head coach and changed the teams color scheme to black and silver and added the logo to the helmet. The logo consists of the word Raiders across the top of a shield with crossed swords and the head of a raider wearing a football helmet. The logo may have gone through some color changes over the years but it has essentially remained the same. The current silver and black uniform of the Raiders has been much the same since 1963. With silver helmets, pants and black or white jerseys. Black jerseys have silver numbers and white jerseys have black numbers. In the beginning the white jerseys had gold numbers with a black outline, then the team tried black numbers with a silver outline, then all silver, but since 1971 black numbers have been used on the white jerseys.

The Raiders wear the black jerseys at home games and white for road games. The only exception to this rule is when in 2008 the Raiders wore their white jerseys at home because of the intense heat in the Bay Area.

The Raiders have had many successful seasons, and have a long and varied history in the NFL as both a controversial team and as a successful team with a selection of historically great athletes.
