Minnesota Vikings Jerseys
The Minnesota Vikings football team is part of the NFC North division of the National Football League. The Vikings were originally members of the Central division until a divisional realignment by the NFL in 2002. The Vikings who are based in Minneapolis, Minnesota have won 1 NFL Championship and gone to the Super Bowl four times. While this sounds like a success they were also the first team to play in and lose 4 Super Bowl championships.
The Vikings name was decided upon in 1961 due to the fact that Minnesota is the center of Scandinavian American culture. This is when the owners decided to no longer be a member of the AFL as the Minneapolis Marines/Red Jackets, and joined the NFL as an expansion team. As a new team with a new name and a new organization the Vikings won their first NFL game against the Chicago Bears. They have continued over the years to be respectable and challenging opponents. They are the 2008 NFC North champions.
With former players like Fran Tarkenton, Ron Yary, Carl Eller and Ed White, the Vikings had great teams in the early seasons. Through the 70's with Alan Page, Chuck Foreman and the "Purple People Eater" defense the Vikings were well known and gathering fans. In the 80's the Vikings moved into the Winter Park facility and played their first season at the Metrodome.
The 90's brought a new head coach, running back Robert Smith, and a 15-1 season. The new millennium has added Daunte Culpepper, Coach Mike Tice and Bobby Wade, as well as a division championship.
