One season after their NFL debut the Tampa team traded with the Seattle Seahawks to become part of the NFC.
The team lost their first twenty six games in the NFL, but then experienced a winning streak that ran from the late 70's through the early 80's. When the winning streak ended the team had a 14 season drought. Since 1996 the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have experienced another successful period where they have been consistent contenders in the playoffs and even won the Super Bowl in 2002.

The Buccaneer Jersey
The team colors were originally red, green, orange and white. In 1997, the team changed their colors to red, pewter, black and orange with a red flag displaying a white pirate skull and crossed sabers. The Tampa Bay team wears red or white jerseys with white or pewter pants. Following the tradition of other NFL teams in warmer climates the Buccaneers wear white jerseys for home games and the red jerseys for road games. The uniform, color, and logo change resulted in a 2003 lawsuit by the Raiders who claimed they had infringed on the trademark of the Raiders brand, particularly the Raiders' pirate logo. The lawsuit did not stick and was thrown out, and "Bruce the Buccaneer" remains the Tampa Bay logo today.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have many distinctions that make them stand out from the rest of the NFL. Including being the first team to win a Super Bowl after having lost at home on opening day, after having been eliminated in the wild-card round of the prior season's playoffs and after having three interceptions returned for touchdowns. They are the only team in the NFC South to win the Super Bowl. The team continues to deserve the faithfulness and support of its fans and is looking to have a very successful season in 2009 under Head Coach Raheem Morris.
