The Red and Gold
The red and gold colors of the Kansas City Chiefs have been around since the beginning. The team helmet originally consisted of a logo made up of the state of Texas in white with a yellow star marking Dallas. The state logo was replaced with an arrowhead design with "KC" appearing inside the arrowhead, surrounded by a thin black outline. The team wears a red helmet, a red or white jersey depending on whether they play at home or away, and red or white numbers and names. White pants are worn with both jerseys.
In 2007, the Kansas City Chiefs added a patch to honor Lamar Hunt and the AFL. The patch consists of the AFL's logo from back in the 60 and includes Hunt's "LH" initials inside the football. In 2008, the patch became a permanent fixture on the left chest of both away and home jerseys. Throwback uniforms are to be worn by AFL founding teams in select games in 2009 in honor of the AFL's 50th anniversary and the Kansas City Chiefs who won the championship in 1962 as the Dallas Texans.
The Chiefs have one of the most loyal fans in the NFL. It is remarkable that with Kansas City being the sixth-smallest media market NFL team, they have had the second-highest ticket sales to their games. With an average of 77,300 fans per game since 1996, the official fan club is called Chiefs Nation which has many perks such as VIP treatment and other ticket priority benefits. Notably, at the end of the national anthem the Chief fans, at home games, will yell "and the home of the CHIEFS!" in place of the words "and the home of the brave".
