Team Logo, Jersey
The Jaguars being a new team had no history to draw upon for their logo. No years of tradition for their colors, they got to start fresh. One would think that the idea of a leaping jaguar with teal gold and silver colors would be pretty unique; however the gold jaguar was thought to be too similar to the Jaguar vehicle logo. Because the Ford Motor Company and the Jaguar team owners were able to work out a compromise, the Jaguar is known as the official car of the Jaguars and thus the team made some adjustments to their logo.
The new logo featured a snarling jaguar head with a teal tongue, taking a jab at the Carolina Panthers the owners said the tongue was teal because they had been feeding the jaguar panthers, because the Panthers color is teal.
In 2009 team owner Weaver decided he wanted to clean up the team image, which meant eliminating the full body jaguar logo, the clawing jaguar and two previous word marks which featured the team name bent around those logos.
After the logo change the new uniforms include an all black helmet, white pants, and gold numbers with black trim on either teal or white jerseys. Each jersey sleeve features a prowling jaguar. In 1995 the Jaguars were the first team to have two-toned borders on their numbers and letters. And also the first NFL team to have a complex logo on the sleeve.
As many other teams in warmer areas usually do, the Jacksonville Jaguars have for the most part worn their white jerseys for home games, and teal for road games. However in 2004 and 2008 the Jaguars wore their teal jerseys for all their home games.
The teams alternate black jersey was introduced in 2002, which is the same year the team began to wear black pants occasionally. Once the black pants became integrated into the uniform the team stopped wearing the white jersey with white pants on a full time basis.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have short history but a lot of potential to become one of the great NFL franchises.
