Green Bay Packers Jerseys

The Green Bay Packers professional football team is member of the NFC North division for the National Football League (NFL). The Packers are the third oldest franchise in the NFL founded in 1919. The Green Bay Packers play their home games at Lambeau Field which is named for the team founder Earl "Curly" Lambeau. At the time the Packers were formed there was a community of small townteams that were common in the American Professional Football Association which was the predecessor to the NFL. The Packers are considered the last of these "small town" teams, and they sure have a long history behind them.

With 12 championship wins the Packers have more league championships than any other team in the NFL. Nine of these championship wins took place before the advent of the Super Bowl, and three are Super Bowl wins. The Packers dominated Super Bowls I and II then returned to the winners circle with Super Bowl XXXI in 1997. The Packers had a 13 consecutive season winning streak that ran from 1992-2004. Not all the seasons have been good ones, as with any sport, there are ups and downs, but the Packers have persevered. The Packers have had a lot of years to develop rivalries and some of their biggest rivals are the Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings and the Dallas Cowboys, who all also have a lot of years in the game.

Proudly answering to the nickname, "Cheeseheads", Packers Fans got their nickname from cheese production in the state of Wisconsin. Originally an insult back in 1987 the name caught on and in 1994 Packers fans embraced the "cheeseheads" as their official logo with "cheesehead" hats, t-shirts and other merchandise.

Early Jerseys

Back in the 1920's the Packers were referred to as the Bays or the Blues and their team colors were blue and gold. It wasn't until 1959 that new head coach Vince Lombardi chose the colors that we know today.

Green and gold are the official Green Bay Packers colors. The Packers wear gold pants with white and green striping whether they are playing home or road games. The gold pants are paired with a green jersey with gold and white trim and white lettering for road games. For home games the gold pants are topped by a white jersey with green and gold trim and green lettering.

What makes the Packers truly unique in the NFL and in the country is that they are the only community owned, non-profit major league pro sports team in the entire United States. With former superstar players like Brett Favre, and coaches like Vince Lombardi, the Packers are an American institution.

As they prepare for the 2009 season, the team and the "Cheeseheads" who love them are hoping that it is the beginning of another winning streak that will lead straight to the Super Bowl, and an NFL Championship.
