Uniforms
During the debut season the Bengals' uniforms were similar to the Cleveland Browns uniforms, brown, orange and white with orange and white helmets. The Bengals team colors were actually orange, white and black, with orange helmets that had no stripe, but did have the word BENGALS on both sides. The Bengals were the only team in the NFL that played without uniform numbers on their jersey sleeves until 1980.
The Bengals kept these uniforms that were so similar to the Cleveland team until 1981. At that time the new uniform design was introduced. While the team kept black jerseys, white jerseys and white pants, they were all trimmed with orange and black tiger stripes. The new helmets were also orange with black tiger stripes. There were no further changes to the Cincinnati Bengals uniforms until 1997.
In 1997 an alternate logo of a leaping tiger was designed and added to the jersey sleeves.
In the new millennium the tiger stripe pattern was updated and there were more accents added to the jerseys. Black jerseys now had orange sleeves and the white jerseys had black sleeves with orange shoulders. A new logo of an orange "B" with black tiger stripes was introduced at this time. The Bengals also began rotating black pants and an alternate orange jersey into their uniform.
Through the history of the team the Bengals have mainly worn black uniforms at home and white while on the road. Beginning in 2001 due to the heat the Bengals wear white at home for preseason games.
With a rich history of drafting educated and talented players, family ownership and being one of 5 NFL teams that does not employ a General Manager the Cincinnati Bengals maintain the standards and teamwork that will help them have a successful future.
