Chicago Bears Jerseys

The Chicago Bears are members of the NFC North division of the National Football League. The Bears have won 9 championships including one Super Bowl, and has had 26 players and coaches inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. That is the most inductees from one team in the history of the NFL.

The Chicago Bears were one of the charter members of the NFL in 1920, although at that time the team was known as the Decatur Staleys, until they relocated to Chicago and became the Chicago Staleys. When George Halas purchased the team he renamed them the Chicago Bears.

Over the years the Chicago Bears team has been home to many notable players including Dick Butkus, Gale Sayers and Brian Piccolo in the 60s and 70s. The 1980s are probably the most exciting of the Bears career history. With Mike Ditka as coach the Bears and Packers rivalry was brought back to life. The 46 defense and the Super Bowl Shuffle novelty rap song, put the Chicago Bears were in the spotlight.

Uniform, Jersey, History

The Chicago Bears uniforms originally contained brown and blue stripes, but by the 30s the Bears wore all orange jerseys with navy numbers and black helmets. There were many more small changes along the way, until by 1949 the Bears had settled on navy blue jerseys with white rounded numbering. The logo changed from a white "C"to a white bordered orange"C"and is still that way. In 1984 the Bears added the initials GSH to the left jersey sleeves in honor of George Halas. The Navy or White Jersey, and white or navy pants are considered the basic uniform of the Chicago Bears.

Some of the other variations of the uniform include navy pants as part of the road uniform, and the 1994 "throwback" uniform that most of the NFL teams introduced to celebrate the NFL's 75th anniversary. These throwback uniforms have brown and blue stripes and resemble the original team uniforms from the 1920's.

A monochrome navy blue uniform was worn the first time in 2002 and the Chicago Bears lost to the Packers at home. The blue uniform wasn't worn again until New Years Eve 2006, when the Bears faced the Packers again, and again they lost, which may be why this uniform isn't worn often.

The Chicago Bears are an NFL institution with a long and rich history, as well as a promising future, with coach Lovie Smith under contract until 2011 and new players chosen at the 2009 draft including Jay Cutler of the Denver Broncos and Jarron Gilbert from San Jose State. A family owned franchise the Chicago Bears is run by Virginia McCaskey and in 2008 was reported by Forbes magazine as being worth $1.1 billion, which puts the Bears at the 9th richest franchise in the NFL.
