Uniform, Jersey, Colors
The Ravens uniform design has been much the same since the inaugural 1996 season.
The Baltimore Ravens helmets are black with purple "talon" stripes. Jerseys are purple for home games and white for road games. In the inaugural season the team wore black pants with a white stripe for all games. When they paired these pants with the purple jerseys for home games they were the first NFL team to wear dark colors from head to calf.
In 1997 the Ravens added the more classic NFL white pants with purple and black stripes. These white pants were worn with both the white and purple jerseys.
By November of 2004 an alternate uniform had been designed what consisted of black jerseys and solid black pants with black socks. This has become the uniform that the team wears for prime-time national game broadcasts and significant games.
In 2008 the Ravens went back to wearing black pants with the white jersey, and also introduced a new combination with the black jersey and white pants.
The Ravens may be a young team when compared with some of the historical greats of the NFL, but over the past few years this fledgling team has shown that is has what it takes to make it to the top and win the top honor in the world of pro football. Rod Woodson a member of the team when they won the Super Bowl has already been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Ravens missed appearing in Super Bowl XLIII by just one victory, as they were trounced by the Steelers in January of 2009. To be so close and not go was disappointing but the Ravens know that the end of one season means it is time to train and get ready for the next one. In preparation for the 2009 season the Baltimore Ravens have drafted Michael Oher from the first round of the NFL draft.
